Program Description:

SAFE provides supportive transitional temporary and permanent independent living housing for people looking for shared housing in Los Angeles. SAFE provides single and shared rooms in a single-family house, four separate common areas and two bathrooms. Prospective tenants, will make an appointment to see the house, if interested, submit an application. Once the application is reviewed, the prospective tenant is invited to a brief interview where they will be asked questions and provided with information regarding their tenancy and a determination is made. If they are selected to reside in a SAFE House, they will have to sign an agreement where all terms are lined out.

There are no drugs, marijuana, alcohol, or vaping allowed inside or outside of any SAFE House. The rent covers the expenses for utilities, furnished house, and referrals for food. SAFE provides a trained employee who is available every day for crisis, helps residents get their lives in order, develops a culture of trust and support in the house, helps resolve issues that may occur between roommates, and refers them to self-help support groups. The coordinator also helps resolve any issues in the house between roommates.

Our goal is to teach residents conflict resolution skills, life skills, and resiliency skills, so that they can effectively resolve their own conflicts with their roommates and others in their lives, in addition to successful independent living in a SAFE house or a house of their own. SAFE residents also have an opportunity to participate in job search, educational preparation classes, and financial literacy classes, as well as other classes. SAFE is designed to provide women residing at SAFE housing, a range of services to attain the skills, knowledge, and motivation necessary to achieve self-sufficiency.
